Principality of Dulkadir - Dulkadir

A state of the Dulkadir tribe, a branch of the Turkmen tribe that migrated to eastern Anatolia following the Mongol invasion of the west. 1337-1515. They expanded their power centering on Marash on the upper reaches of the Euphrates River, and initially submitted to the Mamluk dynasty, but from the first half of the 15th century they became vassals of the Ottoman dynasty and continued to resist the advance of the Mamluk, Ak Koyunlu and Safavid states. They had intermarried with the Ottoman dynasty, and were annexed to the Ottoman Empire in 1515 by Selim I, a descendant of the same tribe. [Koyama Koichiro]
