Turangalîla-Symphonie

One of the masterpieces by the 20th century French composer O. Messiaen. Composed for the Boston Symphony Orchestra at the request of Koussevitzky and his foundation. Completed in November 1948. Premiered in Boston the following year in December 1949 by the Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by Bernstein. "Turangalila" means "love song" in Sanskrit. The orchestra is composed of three wind instruments, including piano, ondes martenot (electronic instrument), wood block (wooden bells), and exotic percussion instruments such as maracas.

20世紀フランスの作曲家O.メシアンの代表作の一つ。クーセビツキーと彼の財団の依頼によってボストン交響楽団のために作曲された。1948年11月完成。翌年49年12月にバーンスタイン指揮ボストン交響楽団によってボストンで初演。〈トゥランガリラ〉とは，サンスクリットで〈愛の歌〉を意味する。編成は，ピアノ，オンド･マルトノ(電子楽器)，ウッド･ブロック(木鐘)，マラカスなど異国情趣の打楽器群を加えた3管編成のオーケストラ。
