One of the masterpieces by the 20th century French composer O. Messiaen. Composed for the Boston Symphony Orchestra at the request of Koussevitzky and his foundation. Completed in November 1948. Premiered in Boston the following year in December 1949 by the Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by Bernstein. "Turangalila" means "love song" in Sanskrit. The orchestra is composed of three wind instruments, including piano, ondes martenot (electronic instrument), wood block (wooden bells), and exotic percussion instruments such as maracas.
