Amara chalcites
Order Coleoptera, Family Carabidae. Body length: about 8.5 mm. The body is oval and shiny black, with a copper-colored back and reddish-brown antennae bases and legs. The head is small and the pronotum narrows forward, with shallow vertical depressions on both sides of the base, but otherwise smooth. The elytra are lined with thin vertical grooves. They live on the ground and move quickly. They are found in Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Chugoku, and there are many closely related species.
