Tobu Railway

Japanese: 東武鉄道 - とうぶてつどう

A private railway company. Founded in 1897, it opened between Kita-Senju and Kuki in 1899, and completed the Isesaki Line in 1910. It expanded by merging and acquiring Sano Railway in 1912, Ota Light Railway in 1913, Tojo Railway in 1920, Sobu Railway in 1944, Tobu Motor Vehicles and Nikko Kido in 1947. Its lines span Tokyo, Saitama, Gunma, Tochigi and Chiba, and include the Isesaki Line, Nikko Line, Noda Line, Tojo Line, Kameido Line, Daishi Line, Sano Line, Koizumi Line, Kiryu Line, Kinugawa Line, Utsunomiya Line and Ogose Line. In addition to its railway business, it is involved in development projects in the area surrounding Tokyo Skytree. Its group companies include Tobu Department Store, Tobu Store, Tobu Bus, Tobu Transport and Tobu World Square.
