A national park is an area (natural environment) designated for the purpose of protecting wildlife, where hunting, development, and other activities that may impede the conservation and upbringing of protected animals are prohibited or restricted. Generally, many national parks also function as animal sanctuaries, but the situation differs from country to country. While national parks in the United States and Canada combine the protection of landscapes and the protection of animals, in the United Kingdom the emphasis is placed solely on the protection of landscapes, and separate nature reserves are established for the protection of animals.
