The name of a school of Heikyoku. In the Edo period, it refers to the tradition founded by Maeda Kyuichi Kengyo (?-1685), and is opposed to the Hatano school founded by Hatano Koichi Kengyo, but both are branches of the Ichikata school from the Muromachi period. Maeda Kengyo studied under Takayama Tan'ichi Kengyo, a disciple of Matsumoto Kyoichi Kengyo of the Ichikata school Shido school, and used conservative texts of tradition, but is said to have reformed the way the music is arranged. He was known as the second master after Hatano Kengyo, and was summoned by Tokugawa Iemitsu to live in Edo. From then on, the tradition was spread throughout the country, with Edo as its center.
