Kasai Corridor - Kasai Corridor

Japanese: 河西回廊 - かせいかいろう

The oasis area west of the Yellow River in Gansu Province was a key transportation point between the East and the West, linking the scattered oases and known as the corridor between China and Central Asia. It was under the control of the Xiongnu, but after Zhang Qian's explorations to the west, Emperor Wu of the Former Han established the four Hexi commanderies, and the Han people began to advance into this area. During the Tang Dynasty, a Hexi governor was appointed, but after the An Lushan Rebellion it came under the control of the Tubo, and in the 11th century it came under the control of the Western Xia.

甘粛省の黄河以西のオアシス地帯
点在するオアシスをつないで，中国と中央アジアを結ぶ回廊地帯と呼ばれた，東西交通の要衝。匈奴の支配下にあったが，張騫 (ちようけん) の西方探索によって前漢武帝が河西４郡を設置，漢人がこの地域へ進出するようになった。唐代には河西節度使が置かれたが，安史の乱後は吐蕃の勢力下にはいり，11世紀には西夏の支配下にはいった。
