Japanese: 銅銭 - どうせん

Coinage made from copper or bronze began to be used in China from the end of the Zhou dynasty, and by the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, sword coins, cloth coins, and ant nose coins had been minted. The First Emperor of Qin unified the currency system, and as part of this, he minted the round, square-hole half-liang coin. The copper coin format was established during the reign of Emperor Wu of the Western Han dynasty, and the Wushu coins minted at this time were considered high quality coins and were used as the standard for specie coins until the Sui dynasty. During the Northern Song dynasty, copper was produced in large quantities, and many were minted, and large quantities were exported to Japan. The Kaiyuan Tongbao coin was the model for the Wado Kaichin coin and other coins.

銅または青銅で鋳造した貨幣
中国では周末期から使われ始め，春秋・戦国時代までに刀銭・布銭・蟻鼻 (ぎび) 銭などが鋳造された。秦の始皇帝は幣制を統一し，その一環として円形方孔の半両銭を鋳造した。銅銭の形式ができあがったのは前漢の武帝のときで，このとき鋳造された五銖 (ごしゆ) 銭は良銭として隋代まで正貨の標準とされた。北宋代には銅の大量産出により多く鋳造され，日本へも多量に輸出された。なかでも開元通宝は和同開珎などのモデルになった。
