After dropping out of the University of Southern California, he went to Paris and made his mark as a columnist for the Paris edition of the Herald Tribune, writing "Paris by Night." In 1962, he returned to the United States and lived in Washington, D.C., where he had a column called "Art Buchwald" in nearly 200 newspapers and magazines.
