He was born on November 22, 1836. In 1866, he experimented with growing mulberry seedlings on the banks of the Arakawa River, and built a silkworm rearing room called the Gensou-ro on the grounds of his home in Tamai Village, Saitama Prefecture (now Kumagaya City), where he taught how to raise silkworms in the cool, natural climate. In 1872, he became the Iruma Prefecture Silkworm Seed General Manager, and took charge of cracking down on the mass production of shoddy silkworm eggs. He died on June 27, 1874, at the age of 44. His works include "On the Pros and Cons of Silkworm Industry." Source: Kodansha Digital Japanese Name Dictionary +Plus Information | Legend |
