Freezing period

Japanese: 凍結期間 - とうけつきかん（英語表記）freezing period

Refers to the period in winter when the soil freezes and seasonal permafrost forms, or the period when lakes, marshes, bays, rivers, etc. freeze over and ship navigation becomes impossible. It can also be referred to as the number of days frozen. In eastern Siberia, coniferous forests lose their leaves during the freezing period, creating a deciduous coniferous forest belt. In the major Siberian rivers that flow into the Arctic Ocean, the freezing period lasts for eight months in the downstream and shortens as you move upstream, causing the river water to overflow and create vast boreal wetlands.
