...Alpha star of Lyra. One of the brightest white stars in the northern sky. Its Arabic name, Nasr al-Wāqi', means "Falling Eagle." The V-shape including the two stars ε and ζ on either side of Vega resembles an eagle falling with its wings folded. The Chinese name, Weaving Girl, is also thought to be the name of the three stars centered on Vega. The origin of this name is ancient, and is recorded in the Xia Xiao Zheng in the Xiao Daili (written by Dai Sheng in the Western Han Dynasty). The Japanese names, Orihime, Tanabata, and Mentanabata, can be considered to be influenced by the Tanabata tale introduced from China.
