Japanese: 洞窟美術 - どうくつびじゅつ

These are paintings on the walls and ceilings of caves, carved into them with lines, reliefs, or painted with brush strokes. They can be found all over the world, but all of them have a strong magical character. The most famous cave murals are from the late Paleolithic period in central and southern France and northern Spain. Altamira, Fonds de Gaume, and Lascaux are representative examples.

洞窟の壁面や天井に線刻，浮彫，彩筆で描いた絵画。世界各地で見られるが，いずれも呪術(じゅじゅつ)的性格が濃い。旧石器時代後期のフランス中・南部やスペイン北部の洞窟に描かれた壁画が名高い。アルタミラ，フォン・ド・ゴーム，ラスコー等が代表的。
