"The Legend of Zuiou, the Path to Rebirth in the Western Pure Land"

...A collection of biographies that briefly records the lives and deeds of people who wished to be reborn in the Pure Land and those who were reborn in the Pure Land, as well as the miraculous events that occurred at the time of death. It was first compiled in the lower volume of Kobo-ji Kasai's Jodo-ron (The Treatise on Pure Land), which included 20 people who had been reborn there, in the early Tang Dynasty of China. It was not until Wen'an and Shaokang of the mid-Tang Dynasty wrote Zuiou-den (The Legend of the Auspicious One Who Goes to the Pure Land in the West) that the biographies of people who had been reborn in the Pure Land were independent, and many biographies were compiled from the Song Dynasty onwards. In Japan, Yoshishige Yasutane, who had deep sympathy for Genshin, compiled Nihon Ojo Gokuraku-ki (Record of the Japanese Ojo in the Pure Land) in the Kanwa era (985-987)....
