Tucano (English spelling)

Japanese: トゥカノ（英語表記）Tucano

The Tukano, in the broadest sense of the word, are the people who live in the northwestern Amazon forests of Colombia in South America. They are divided into the Eastern Tukano and the Western Tukano, the former consisting of the Desana, Tukano, Pira-Tapuya, Huanano, Carapana, Tuyuca, Miriti-Tapuya, Yuriti-Tapuya, Cubeo and Barrasana peoples, and the latter consisting of the peoples living in the Caquetá River basin and in the Peruvian Amazon. Only the Eastern Tukano peoples are known ethnologically, and little is known about the Western Tukano.

広義の言語グループとしてのトゥカノは，南アメリカのコロンビア領に位置する北西アマゾンの森林地帯に居住する人々を指す。東トゥカノと西トゥカノに分けられ，前者はデサナ，トゥカノ，ピラ･タプヤ，ワナノ，カラパナ，トゥユカ，ミリティ･タプヤ，ユリティ･タプヤ，クベオ，バラサナの諸族から成り，後者はカケタ川流域からペルー領アマゾンに分布する諸族から成る。民族学的に知られているのは東トゥカノの諸族で，西トゥカノについては詳しいことはわかっていない。
