Pegu is a city in southern Myanmar. It is located northeast of Yangon and is a railway junction. It is a thriving trading and processing center for agricultural products such as rice and peanuts. From the 14th to the 16th century, it flourished as the capital of the Mon dynasty, the Pegu Dynasty, which ruled this region. It is home to a huge reclining Buddha statue and the 113-meter-tall Shwemaukdauk Pagoda. (Pegu) ミャンマー南部の都市。ヤンゴンの北東方にあり、鉄道の分岐点。米や落花生などの農産物の取引、加工が盛ん。一四世紀から一六世紀までは、この地方を支配したモン族の王朝、ペグー朝の首都として栄えた。巨大な寝釈迦像と高さ一一三メートルのシュエマウダウ‐パゴダがある。
