A film company. Founded in 1951 by the merger of Tokyo Eiga Haikyu, Toyoko Eiga, and Oizumi Eiga. Initially, the company focused on period dramas starring Kataoka Chiezo and Ichikawa Utaemon, but sales were poor. However, the company stabilized after the success of the contemporary drama "Himeyuri no To" (1953) starring Imai Tadashi and streamlining of management. In the 1950s, the company created new stars such as Nakamura Kinnosuke and Azuma Chiyonosuke, ushering in the golden age of period dramas. In 1954, it adopted the entertainment-oriented double feature format and achieved success. After that, it shifted from period dramas to gangster films. The film industry has been in decline since the 1960s, but the company has responded by diversifying its operations through affiliated companies such as animation production, foreign film distribution, video and television film production, and real estate. Recently, the company has been actively involved in digital-compatible cinema complexes. Head office in Tokyo, film studios in Tokyo and Kyoto. 映画会社。1951年東京映画配給・東横映画・大泉映画が合併して設立。当初は片岡千恵蔵，市川右太衛門らを中心とした時代劇に重点をおいたが不振，現代劇の今井正の《ひめゆりの塔》（1953年）のヒットと経営合理化で企業的に安定。1950年代に入ると中村錦之助，東千代之介など新しいスターを生み出し時代劇の黄金時代を築いた。1954年娯楽本位の２本立て興行を採用して成功。その後作品は時代劇から任侠映画路線に移った。1960年代以降映画産業は衰退に向かうが，アニメーション製作，洋画配給，ビデオ・テレビ映画製作，不動産部門などの関連会社による経営の多角化で対応。最近は，デジタル対応のシネマ・コンプレックスなどにも積極的。本社東京，撮影所東京，京都。2011年資本金117億円，2011年３月期売上高1088億円。売上構成（％）は，映像関連66，興行関連13，催事関連８，観光不動産６，その他７。
