A town in Kitashitara County in the Mino-Mikawa Plateau in northeastern Aichi Prefecture. The central settlement, Hongo, was a former post town on the Bessho Kaido (now National Route 151) that connects Shinano and Mikawa. The Iida Line runs through the southern end. Most of the town is covered by forest, and the town is engaged in agriculture and forestry, as well as wood processing. Shiitake mushrooms and konjac are local specialties.
