A general term for birds of the Muscicapinae subfamily of the family Muscicapidae in the order Passeriformes. One of the characteristics of Muscicapinae is that they perch on a branch, and when they spot a flying fly or horsefly, they fly off to catch it and then return to their original position. Therefore, this feeding method is often called the "muscicapina feeding method." The etymology of the word "muscicapina" is said to be "fire-beating" or "fire-kindling," and many Muscicapina species make sounds that sound like the sound of hitting a flint, such as "hihihi," "pippi," and "katakatara."
