The greatness of German music, represented by such composers as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and Wagner, is often spoken of. However, German music cannot be easily defined. Even when we talk about German music, many Czech musicians who immigrated from Bohemia were active in Berlin, Mannheim, Vienna, and other cities during the pre-classical and classical periods, and made substantial contributions to the formation of German music. We cannot forget the remarkable achievements of Jewish musicians in the 19th century. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
