The territories and positions that brought economic profits to the Muromachi Shogunate. It is a term that appears in historical documents from that time, but is not used strictly in the sense we use today. There are examples where it is expressed as "ryosho and yori-chi," and in this case it seems that it is considered that territories entrusted to direct vassals should be distinguished from ryosho. In addition, since tribute money from sake shops and storehouses, the nozenkata, and official money from the shirofudana and okatachiyaza were also called ryosho, it would be misleading to equate ryosho with directly controlled territories. Now, to date, about 200 territories that are described as "ryosho" in historical documents have been identified. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
