A Persian word meaning a customs ticket. In India, a decree from the Mughal Emperor in 1717 established the privilege of exempting goods exported and imported by the British East India Company from inland customs duties while passing through the interior of India, and the free customs ticket for this purpose was called dastak. However, as British commercial activities expanded, dastak, which was supposed to be used only for the company's imports and exports, was also misused by company employees for their personal transactions of everyday Indian goods not intended for export, and even dastak itself came to be smuggled.

通関券を意味するペルシア語系のことば。インドでは1717年のムガル皇帝の勅令によって，イギリス東インド会社の輸出･入する商品がインド内陸を通過中に内陸関税を免除される特権が確立したが，そのための自由通関券がダスタクである。ところが，イギリス人の商業活動の拡大とともに，会社の輸出入品のみに使用されるはずのダスタクが，会社の社員の私的な，輸出向けでないインド日常品の取引にも乱用され，さらには，ダスタク自体が密売されるようになった。
