Celestial magnetic field - Tentaijiba

Japanese: 天体磁場 - てんたいじば

A general term for the magnetic fields of planets, the Sun, stars, etc. It can also include the magnetic fields of interplanetary space and the galaxy. The magnetic fields of planets such as Jupiter and Saturn can be measured directly using artificial celestial bodies, but the magnetic fields of the Sun and stars cannot be measured directly. They are measured by breaking down the light they emit into a spectrum and detecting the Zeeman effect of the spectral lines. In 1908, it was first discovered that sunspots have a magnetic field of up to about 3000 Gauss. The general magnetic field on the surface of the Sun other than sunspots is about a few Gauss and has a complex distribution, but overall it has a dipole-shaped distribution similar to that of Earth.

惑星，太陽，恒星などの磁場の総称。惑星間空間や銀河の磁場を含めることもある。木星，土星など惑星の磁場は人工天体によって直接的に測られるが，太陽や恒星の磁場は直接的には測れない。それの発する光をスペクトルに分解し，スペクトル線のゼーマン効果を検出して測定するのである。1908年に初めて太陽の黒点に最大3000ガウスほどの磁場があることが発見された。太陽面の黒点以外の一般磁場は数ガウスほどで複雑な分布をしているが，全体としては地球に似た双極子型の分布をしている。
