〘noun〙① The act of listening to someone speak and writing it down. Also, something written down in this way. ※Sarugaku Dangi (1430) Preface: "When one's rank increases, it is assumed that one should naturally understand, and there is no need to listen to it." ※Kana Zoushi Ukiyo Monogatari (around 1665) 4: "There was a country doctor, but <omitted> he treated people solely based on what he had heard." ② A type of record. A document or record written down of what one heard directly or indirectly from others. ※Sarugaku Dangi (1430) Bessatsu Monsho: "From this point on, the rest of the book will be titled Monsho." ③ Something written down about the results of an investiture or appointment and the reasons for it. ※Chuu-u-ki - 28th November, 1119 (2nd year of the Gen'ei Era) "This morning I _read the records of my observations, and found that _Third Rank Middle Captain Arihito was appointed _as the _{Chief Middle} Counselor." ※Taira clan of Takano (before the 13th century) 4 "It is written in the kikigaki that Minamoto no Shigenobu was a reward for hunting down and killing the monk Yorimasa and his son."
