The Gospels of Etchmiadzin

…In the early period, the works reflected Hellenistic elements, in the middle period Byzantine elements, and in the later period Islamic elements. In all cases, the Armenian national style was distinctive, characterized by clear expression with simple lines and strong colors. The works mainly consist of copies of the Gospels, and the Gospels of Echmiadzin (10th century, Yerevan Library, ivory-carved binding boards from the 6th century) are a representative masterpiece.
