Born: Around 1563, Pisa
[Died] c. 1647. London Italian painter. Father of the female painter Artemisia Gentileschi. After training under his brother Aurelio, he went to Rome at a young age and worked there until 1620. He then went to Genoa (1621-23), Paris (25), and London (26), where he worked as a court painter at the British court until his death. His style was characterized by graceful forms and subtle light effects, and was significantly influenced by Caravaggio. His major works include St. Cecilia and an Angel (c. 1606, Corsini Collection) and Rest on the Flight into Egypt (c. 26, Louvre Museum, Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna).

[Died] After 1651. Italian female painter in Naples. Daughter of Orazio Gentileschi. Trained under her father and G. Reni. Active in Tuscany (c. 1621-26), Rome, London (1638-39), and Naples. Inheriting Orazio's style, she influenced Neapolitan painters. Her major works include "The Miracles of St. Carlo Borromeo" (before 1620, Florence, Cecconi Collection), "The Birth of John the Baptist" (Prado Museum), and "Judith Beheading Holofernes" (Uffizi Gallery, Capodimonte National Museum).
