Electrolytic polarization

Japanese: 電解分極 - でんかいぶんきょく（英語表記）electrolytic polarization

The phenomenon in which the voltage U between the terminals of a battery deviates from _its value U0 when no current is flowing when current is flowing through the battery system is generally called electrolytic polarization or electrochemical polarization. The difference between U and U0 is called the polarization voltage, and its value changes depending on the magnitude and direction of the current. The polarization voltage of a battery is equal to the sum _of the polarization voltage at each electrode system that makes up the battery and the ohmic drop due to the electrical resistance inside the battery (if the current is I and the internal resistance is R , the ohmic drop is given by IR ).

電池系に電流が流れているときに，電池の端子間の電圧Uが，電流が流れていない状態での値U₀からずれる現象を，一般に電解分極または電気化学的分極electrochemical polarizationという。また，UとU₀との差を分極電圧polarization voltageといい，その値は電流の大きさや向きによって変化する。電池の分極電圧は，電池を構成している各電極系における分極電圧と，電池内部の電気抵抗によるオーム降下(電流がI，内部抵抗がRならばオーム降下はIRで与えられる)との和に等しい。
