〘名〙 (験をあらわす行者の意。「ざ」は「じゃ」の直音表記) 加持祈祷(かじきとう)をして、物の怪(け)などを退散させ、病気をなおして、霊験をあらわす行者。修験道(しゅげんどう)の行者。修験者。修験。げんじゃ。※宇津保（970‐999頃）国譲中「夜昼、医師(くすし)〈略〉げんざなど召しつつおはしますに」[補注]元来は「修験者」と同義であったが、修験者は、修験道において山林にこもって霊験を得ようとする修行者を指す場合が多いのに対し、験者は、霊験の力によって精神錯乱などの病気や、ものに憑かれた人を治療する人を指し、意味の使い分けが見られる。
