Xanthene dyes - Xanthene dyes

Also known as xanthene dyes. A general term for dyes that contain a xanthene ring. A hydroxyl group or (substituted) amino group is present in the para position to the central carbon, and the central carbon is further substituted with a phenyl group or other groups, and their properties are very similar to diphenylmethane dyes. Most are basic dyes, but there are also some acid dyes and acid mordant dyes, and many of them are fluorescent. They are used as cationic dyes for polyacrylonitrile fibers, and rhodamine B is a representative example.

ザンセン染料ともいう．キサンテン環を含む染料の総称．中心炭素に対してパラ位にヒドロキシ基または(置換)アミノ基が存在し，さらに中心炭素がフェニル基，そのほかで置換され，性質がジフェニルメタン染料によく似ている．多くは塩基性染料であるが，一部酸性染料，酸性媒染染料があり，蛍光を伴うものが多い．ポリアクリロニトリル繊維のカチオン染料として用いられ，ローダミンBがその代表例である．
