A town in Urakawa County in south-central Hokkaido. Location of the Hidaka Subprefectural Bureau. The Hidaka Main Line runs through the town. The Hidaka Mountains are to the northeast, and the town faces the Pacific Ocean to the southwest. The town raises thoroughbreds, dairy cows, and beef cattle, and also produces a large amount of kelp. The Hidaka Breeding Farm (now the Tokachi Livestock Improvement Center Farm) is famous for raising race horses. The town suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 694.26 km2 .
