Other reasons for Sadanobu's dismissal include the "Emperor's title incident," in which Emperor Kokaku tried to bestow the title of Retired Emperor on his birth father, Prince Kan'in no Miya Norihito, and Sadanobu opposed it, and the so-called "Taigosho problem," in which Sadanobu discouraged Shogun Ienari from welcoming his birth father, Hitotsubashi Harusaru, to Edo Castle as Taigosho, which led to serious conflicts between Ienari, Harusaru, and Sadanobu. However, the elders Matsudaira Nobuaki and others who had promoted the Kansei Reforms together with Sadanobu remained in the bakufu even after Sadanobu's dismissal, and these "Kansei Elders" helped to continue the Kansei Reforms until around the end of the Bunka era. …
