A battle in 480 BC during the Persian Wars. Thermopylae was an important gateway to central Greece. Leonidas, king of Sparta, led the entire Greek army to fight against the Persian army led by Xerxes I. However, he was defeated by a traitor and all 300 Spartan soldiers were killed in battle.
