A perennial plant of the Asteraceae family. It is also called Tochina or Chimekusa. It is widely distributed in Japan, the Korean peninsula, and China, and usually grows in sunny areas of mountains and fields. At first, it produces basal leaves in a rosette shape, but by the time of flowering, the basal leaves wither. The stem grows to about 1m in height and is densely hairy all over. The leaves are opposite each other and many are deeply pinnately lobed. Around August to October, it produces cymes at the end of the stem. The corolla is white, deeply lobed into five parts, and about 4mm in diameter. It has one style surrounded by four stamens. After flowering, it produces long runners from the base of the plant to produce new seedlings. The Japanese name means that it is similar to Ominaeshi but is more robust.
