Then, James Churchward (1852-1936), a British soldier stationed in India, discovered an ancient tablet there and deciphered that a continent called Mu, which boasted an advanced civilization 50,000 years ago, existed in the Pacific Ocean. He renamed the hypothetical Lemuria to Mu in accordance with the ancient legend.
