1915‐82 Italian tenor. He studied at the Pesaro Conservatory and the Rome Opera House. During World War II, while enlisted in the military, he performed in operas in major cities throughout Italy. After the war, he charmed audiences with his performances of Aida and Andrea Chénier at La Scala in Milan, alongside Callas and Tebaldi. At the same time, he performed in the above two operas, as well as Tosca, Manon Lescaut, and Otello in various parts of Europe and America. He achieved success thanks to his voice and appearance suited to playing tragic heroines, but he was involved in a car accident in December 1963, which forced him to semi-retire.
