Derwish (English spelling)

Japanese: デルウィーシュ（英語表記）derwīsh

A monk who belongs to an Islamic mystical order (tariqa). Also called darwish. The word is said to have a Persian origin, but this is unclear. They are also called fakirs, and can be considered synonymous with Sufis. Mystical orders began to be founded in various parts of the Islamic world around the 12th century. Each of these orders was founded by a famous mystical thinker, and some of them have continued to carry on the customs and rituals of their early founding to this day.

イスラム神秘主義の教団(タリーカ)に属する修道者。ダルウィーシュdarwīshともいう。この語の語源はペルシア語であるとされているが，その当否は不明である。彼らはファキールと呼ばれることもあり，またスーフィーとも同義といえる。神秘主義教団は12世紀ころからイスラム世界の各地に創設され始めた。これらの教団は，それぞれ著名な神秘主義思想家により創設され，創設当初の習慣･儀礼が今日まで連綿と伝えられているものもある。
