...In botanical terms, it is a general term for the genus Pelargonium in the family Geranium, but since it was once treated as the genus Geranium , many garden plants are still called by the old scientific name, Geranium. In gardening, the term Pelargonium refers to a group of cultivated plants in this genus, such as P. grandiflorum Willd., P. cucullatum Ait., P. angulosum Ait., and P. × domesticum Bailley, which is a hybrid of these two. Its Japanese name is Natsuzakitenjikuaoi (illustration), and its English names are show geranium, fancy geranium, and Martha Washington geranium and Lady Washington geranium, named after Mrs. George Washington.
