A Chinese eunuch from Ulzhou (Ul County, Hebei Province). He served as a close aide to Emperor Zhengtong from his days as the eastern palace. When Emperor Zhengtong ascended to the throne at a young age, he gradually became tyrannical as the Minister of State. In 1442, after the death of the Empress Dowager and the retirement of the Three Yangs (Yang Shiqi, Yang Pu, and Yang Rong) from the cabinet, he controlled the government. In 1442, when Esen (Ye Xian) of the Oirats (Waqing) invaded Datong, he recklessly encouraged the emperor to personally lead an offensive, which led to the Tumu Incident, a major defeat, and he was killed in battle.

中国，明代の宦官。蔚州 (河北省蔚県) の人。正統帝の東宮時代から側近として仕え，正統帝が幼くして帝位につくと司礼太監として次第に専横となり，正統7 (1442) 年太后が没し，内閣の三楊 (楊士奇，楊溥，楊栄 ) が退官してからは政権を左右していた。同 14年オイラート (瓦剌)のエセン (也先)が大同に侵入すると，不用意に帝の親征をすすめ，土木の変を招いて大敗し，戦死した。
