A perennial plant of the Asteraceae family. Also known as white daisy. Native to Dalmatia in the Balkans. In Japan, it is widely cultivated around the Seto Inland Sea and Hokkaido. The stems are 30-60cm tall and covered with white silky hairs. The leaves are pinnately lobed 2-3 times, with thin, linear lobes. In May-June, a flower head about 3cm in diameter appears at the end of a long peduncle. There are 15-20 white ray-shaped flowers around the edge, and the center is made of yellow tubular flowers. Dried flowers have insecticidal properties, and the active ingredient is pyrethrin. Powdered flowers were once widely used as insecticides, such as flea powder. They are also currently used as an ingredient in mosquito coils.
