A fee that a gambling gambler takes from customers after each bet. Gambling gamblers have been collecting fees since the Heian period, when gamblers first appeared. The name "tera-sen" was created in the Edo period, and it is said that it was derived from the fact that gambling was held at temples, and the money was used to build the temples. However, it is more plausible that the white cloth used to cover the trays is called "tera" (cloth), just like the "tera" in "dotera" (traditional Japanese robe), and that the name "tera-sen" refers to the fee for the tray mats. Tera-sen is taken from the winner, and the rule is that it is four percent of the bet. There are also various other methods, such as taking 10% when sixes are lined up, or only when two numbers are lined up, or when two, four, six, or seven are rolled on a chin. Terazeni was the name given to a gambling hall when it was opened by a boss whose territory it was; when it was opened in someone else's territory it was called "kasuri," and when a boss retired and received a percentage of the profits from the new boss as retirement pay, it was called "kokutori."
