〘名〙① いましめること。いましめ。訓戒。〔呉子‐論将〕② (sīla の訳) 仏語。三学の一つ。心身のあやまちを防止すること。そのあやまちを防止するための規則としては、在家、出家に対して、五戒、十戒、具足戒など、種々のものがあり、また、僧俗共通の大乗の菩薩戒などがある。いむこと。〔勝鬘経義疏（611）〕③ 漢文の一体。人をいましめるのを目的とし、漢の杜篤の「女戒」に始まるとされる。〔文体明弁‐戒〕
