Gyeongpo-dae

A tower on a terrace in the northeastern part of Gangneung City, Gangwon Province, on the east coast (Japan Sea side) of South Korea (Republic of Korea). Built during the Goryeo Dynasty, it is counted as one of the Eight Views of Kanto along with Gyeongpo Lake below. Gyeongpo Lake, the pine forests of the sand dunes, and the white island floating in the Japan Sea, along with the harvest moon, create a magnificent view. Gyeongpo Lake is a lagoon formed when a sandbar blocked the entrance to a bay created by the rise in sea level during the post-glacial period, but it is being filled in with soil from the nearby hills. The swimming beach that makes use of the coast's sandy beach is famous nationwide, and attracts many tourists in the summer.

韓国（大韓民国）の東海岸（日本海側）、江原道(こうげんどう／カンウォンド)江陵(こうりょう／カンヌン)市の北東部にある段丘上の楼台。高麗(こうらい)時代に建てられ、眼下の鏡浦湖とともに関東八景の一つに数えられる。鏡浦湖と砂丘の松林、日本海に浮かぶ白島などが、中秋の名月なども加わって絶景をなす。鏡浦湖は後氷期の海面上昇によってできた湾入の入口を砂州がふさいで形成した潟湖(せきこ)であるが、付近の丘陵地からの土砂で埋め立てられつつある。海岸の砂浜を利用した海水浴場は全国的に有名で、夏は多くの観光客が訪れる。
