French author. He was a humanist who was appointed secretary to Marguerite de Navarre in 1536, but is believed to have committed suicide around 1544. His mysterious satirical dialogue Cumbarum Mundi (The Bell of the World) (1538), which he published anonymously and was banned by the Faculty of Theology at the University of Paris upon its publication, has generally been thought to contain bold criticism of Christian doctrine. However, in recent years, some have interpreted it as a book that preaches evangelical Christian faith.

フランスの作家。1536年マルグリット･ド･ナバールの秘書に採用された人文主義者であるが，44年頃自殺したとされている。彼が匿名で出版し，刊行と同時にパリ大学神学部から禁書に処せられた謎めいた世相風刺の対話《キュンバルム･ムンディ(世の鐘)》(1538)には，キリスト教の教義に対する大胆な批判がこめられていると一般には考えられてきた。しかし近年，逆にこれを福音主義的なキリスト教信仰を説く書であるとみなす解釈も出されている。
