Two agreements signed in 1929 between the Italian Fascist government and the Holy See at the Laterano Palace in Rome. The agreements consisted of the Treaty between the Holy See and Italy and the Concordat, which established Catholicism as the sole state religion of Italy, recognized the independence of the Vatican City, and stipulated the relationship between the powers belonging to the Church and the powers belonging to the state. These agreements resolved the conflict between the state and the Church that had continued since the occupation of Rome by Italian troops in 1870. Their contents are still valid today under the Italian Constitution. → Related articles Constitution of the Italian Republic | Vatican | Rome (city) Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
