A novel by the British novelist C. Dickens. Published in 1850. Written in lieu of an autobiography, it tells the story of the narrator, David, who endured many hardships in life as a child, and his journey from childhood to becoming a successful novelist and getting happily married. Many of the supporting characters who appear around him are unforgettable and even more charming than the protagonist himself, making this a work that could be called a human exhibition. In Japan, Tokutomi Roka was inspired by this work to write Memories (1900-01). Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
