Udaya (English spelling)

…It is located near Patna, the capital of Bihar, on the south bank of the Ganges. During the Buddha era (6th-5th century BCE), King Ajatashatru of Magadha built a fort here, and his successor Udayin moved the capital from Rajagriha. Since then, it flourished as a fortified city in eastern India and as a political and cultural center during the Nanda, Maurya, and Gupta periods.
