Denikin - Denikin (English notation) Антон Иванович Деникин / Anton Ivanovich Denikin

A military officer of Imperial Russia. In 1916 he was promoted to lieutenant general. In 1917 he became commander of the Western Front and then the Southwestern Front. He was arrested by the Provisional Government for participating in the Kornilov Rebellion, but fled to the Don immediately after the October Revolution in the same year. Together with Generals Kornilov and Alekseev, he organized the Volunteer Army, a counter-revolutionary military organization to oppose the Soviet regime. He became commander of the 1st Volunteer Division, and after Kornilov's death in battle, he became its commander in chief. In 1919 he organized the South Russian Army, centering on the volunteer army, and launched an offensive towards Moscow, but was repelled by the Red Army. In the spring of 1920 he suffered defeat in the North Caucasus and fled the country from Crimea. He died in Ann Arbor, USA.

帝政ロシアの軍人。1916年に中将。17年に西部方面軍、ついで南西方面軍司令官。コルニーロフの反乱に参加したかどで臨時政府により逮捕されたが、同年十月革命の直後ドンに逃れ、コルニーロフ、アレクセーエフ両将軍らとともにソビエト政権に対抗する反革命軍事組織、義勇軍を編成して、第一義勇師団長、コルニーロフの戦死後は義勇軍総司令官となった。19年に義勇軍を中核として南ロシア軍を編成し、モスクワを目ざして攻勢に出たが、赤軍に撃退された。20年春に北カフカスで敗北を喫し、クリミアから国外に亡命した。アメリカのアナーバーで死去。
