Gangneung
A city in the eastern part of Gangwon Province, Korea. It is the center of a small plain facing the Sea of ​​Japan in the Namdaecheon River basin, and a distribution center for agricultural products. Dried oysters are a specialty. It is a key transportation hub from the Yeongdong region to Seoul, with the Yeongdong (Seoul - Gangneung, 1975) and Donghae (Gangneung - Donghae, 1979) expressways. It is the entrance to Odaesan National Park, and has developed into a tourist destination and beach destination. The local Dano Festival is also famous as a traditional performing art. 221,000 people (2005).
