...In the late Middle Ages, the Onodera clan's branch castle was established here. Imajuku, which borders Numadate to the south, flourished in the early modern period as a river port and market town on the Omono River. In 1918, the Yokote-Numadate section of the Yokosho Railway (later the Ugo Kotsu Yokosho Line) opened, and Numadate flourished as a key railway transportation point. The railway was later extended to Omori, but was discontinued in 1971.
