An old town in Hata District, southwest of Kochi Prefecture. The main settlement, Saga, is at the mouth of the Iyoki River and once prospered through Tosa whaling. They line-fish bonito and process seafood. They grow fruit and vegetables, and produce a lot of shimeji mushrooms. The Tosa Kuroshio Railway runs through the town. 高知県南西部,幡多(はた)郡の旧町。主集落の佐賀は伊与木川河口にあり,かつて土佐捕鯨で栄えた。カツオの一本釣り,水産加工を行う。果樹,蔬菜栽培を行い,シメジを多産する。土佐くろしお鉄道が通じる。2006年3月,幡多郡大方町と合併し町制,幡多郡黒潮町となる。75.83km2。4362人(2003)。
